OFFER NEGOTIATION
Don’t leave future compensation to chance
You spent weeks preparing for interviews and worked hard to earn the offer. This is your opportunity to ensure you are being appropriately valued and not leaving money, equity, or benefits on the table.
Remember, you get what you negotiate, not what you deserve!
Did you know that:
80% of employers expect candidates to negotiate
60% of US workers never attempt to negotiate higher pay
75% of negotiations result in higher base compensation
Most don't understand the true value of equity compensation (RSUs, stock options)
You have an offer in hand right now
The negotiation window closes fast. The best time to reach out is within 24–48 hours of receiving the offer — before you've said anything you can't walk back.
What brings people here
Your current employer has counter-offered
The counter-offer moment is the most mishandled conversation in a career transition. We've navigated it hundreds of times. There is a right move.
You already started negotiating and aren't sure where you stand
It's not too late. We'll assess what's been said, what leverage remains, and what your next move should be. Reach out before you make another response.
You expect an offer in the next 2–4 weeks
Benchmarking before the offer arrives means you walk in knowing your number — not discovering it under pressure with a deadline attached.
You're being promoted internally
Internal promotions are negotiable. Most people don't negotiate them because it feels awkward. That discomfort is exactly where the room to move lives.
You completed Interview Mastery and just received an offer
We already know your career story, your target comp, and your goals. Reach out directly — we'll skip the intake and move straight to your benchmark session.

PREREQUISITE
You received (or are just about to receive) a verbal or written job offer.
I negotiated a 30% higher compensation, and then some!
“I received an offer for an exciting job at a Y-Combinator AI startup.
My mentor recommended Better Life Decisions to negotiate the offer.
I was able to negotiate a 30% increase in my salary and sign-on bonus, a higher title, and more equity in the company.
That’s what I call a great return on investment!”
- Jose Mendoza
I didn't truly understand my offer
“I reviewed the offer with Better Life Decisions, and I am really glad I did. Not only did we negotiate a better outcome, but I also came to really understand their equity grant, which was much lower than the recruiter had explained to me! It’s all about knowing what questions to ask.
We also tidied up the offer, ensuring we included the correct title, scope of responsibility, and reporting structure. That alone was instrumental as the company went through a reorganization just a few weeks after I joined.
It's not only about negotiation but also about securing your future with the firm.

FAQ
-
Same day. Email us directly with the subject line "Urgent negotiation," and we will prioritize your engagement immediately. We routinely turn around full negotiation strategies within a few hours for clients with tight deadlines.
Don't ask the company for an extension without talking to us first — we'll tell you exactly whether you need one and the precise wording to request it without raising flags.
-
Three things: the full written offer or a summary of the verbal offer, the job description, and a brief note on where you are in the process — how many rounds you had, who you met, any feedback received. You don't need to prepare anything formal or send a résumé.
-
Most engagements close within 5–14 days of the first offer being received.
The benchmarking session takes place within 24 hours of your reaching out.
The counter-offer strategy is delivered the same day or the next morning.
After that, the pace is set by the company's response speed — which we'll coach you to influence constructively.
-
You speak to the company. We work behind the scenes — coaching every response, drafting every email, and telling you exactly what to say on any calls.
This is deliberate: a candidate who negotiates confidently for themselves is more respected than one who sends a third party. We give you the expertise and the words; you deliver them.
-
It almost never is. "This is our best offer" is a standard negotiating position, not a fact — and it's one of the most common responses to a counter at any level.
We'll give you the exact phrase that almost always creates movement without damaging the relationship.
If it genuinely is their ceiling, we'll help you evaluate whether to accept, decline, or use the offer to improve a competing opportunity.
-
No — and this is the most common fear we hear.
Companies expect negotiation at any level, but even more so at Director and VP level.
A candidate who accepts without negotiating can actually raise questions about their self-awareness and market knowledge.
The risk isn't negotiating — it's negotiating badly. That's exactly what we prevent. We have never had a client lose an offer as a result of a negotiation we guided.
-
This question is best deflected — answering it before you have an offer is one of the most common ways candidates cap their own outcome.
We'll give you the exact phrasing to redirect it professionally without lying or creating tension.
Here is a generic answer:
"I'm more interested in understanding the full scope of the role and whether it's a mutual fit before discussing numbers — I'm confident we can get to a place that works for both of us once we're aligned on that."
Works on a phone screen, works in a panel, works in an email.
However, we tailor the wording to your specific situation.
-
Never fabricate competing offers — it's a short-term tactic with serious long-term risk if discovered, and it's unnecessary.
Real leverage comes from knowing your market value and being confident in your alternatives — including the option to stay where you are.
We'll show you how to reference your market research and the strength of your options truthfully, which is just as effective as a competing offer and carries zero risk.
-
Accepting the first offer.
Not because they're pushovers — but because the moment the offer arrives, relief takes over. The search is over, the hard part feels done, and the instinct is to lock it in before something changes.
That instinct costs most SM/VP-level professionals $30,000–$60,000.
The offer you receive on day one is never the final offer. That's not cynicism — it's how the process is designed on the company side.
-
Under Option B, you pay a $500 retainer upfront (credited toward the final fee), then 10–25% of the measurable increase we help you secure above your baseline offer.
The baseline is defined and agreed in writing before we begin — it's the offer as it stands on day one of our engagement.
The revenue share covers base salary increase, signing bonus, annual bonus improvement, and equity annualized value.
If the increase is zero, the revenue share is zero. Everything is documented in a signed agreement before work starts.
-
If the total measurable Compensation Increase — across all components we work on together — is less than $10,000, we refund your fee in full. The guarantee applies to Option A (flat fee) and Option B (revenue share). It does not apply if you deviate from our agreed negotiation strategy without prior discussion, or if the offer is rescinded for reasons unrelated to the negotiation (e.g., a company-wide hiring freeze or a failed background check).
All terms are written into your engagement agreement before work begins.
-
Yes — and this happens often. We'll assess where you are, what's been said, and what leverage you still have. If you've already made an ask, we can't reset the baseline, but in most cases, there are still levers left untouched and a better counterstrategy available.
The sooner you reach out from this point, the more options we have. Don't make another move until we've spoken.
-
Reach out directly rather than going through the standard booking flow. As a returning client, we fast-track your benchmarking session and give you priority scheduling. The trust is already built — let's put it to work immediately. Mention your previous engagement and we'll waive the standard discovery call and move straight to the strategy session.
Not the right fit if:
You don't have an offer or an imminent offer in hand — this is an active negotiation service, not a career strategy. If you completed our Interview Mastery Intensive and are now receiving an offer, reach out directly — we'll fast-track your onboarding.
Haven't done the interview yet?
Our Offer Negotiation service is designed for the moment you have an offer in hand. If you're still in the interview process, our Interview Mastery Intensive prepares you to perform at your best — and positions you to negotiate from a place of strength when the offer arrives. Clients who complete both services consistently report the largest total comp gains.
