About Alexandra

With degrees in psychology and education, I began my career teaching middle school, where I built and launched outdoor education programs at two different institutions. Motherhood saw me shifting to working from home, and I gradually built a six-figure freelance writing business. Wrote a few books. Hit the speaking circuit in 2011 and talked with different groups about anxiety, the power of our thoughts and self-care.

In 2019 I joined Roy Group, a powerhouse firm in the leadership development space, as a communications consultant. I learned the skills involved in executive coaching and immediately fell in love with it. I decided to pursue certification, but I wanted training that went even deeper. I wanted the codes to help people unlock the unconscious scripts that are running their internal emotional program—feedback loops like anxiety, anger and self-doubt. Because if left unchecked, those invisible scripts will gradually destroy the integrity of the whole operating system.

When Gay Hendricks's book Conscious Living made it to my bedside pile, I knew I’d found my teacher. In 2022 I studied with Gay and Katie Hendricks directly, earning my somatic coaching designation from the Hendricks Institute. I’m still active in the Hendricks community, currently sitting on the team that delivers training to new Big Leap coaches.

If you understand how mindfulness works but find it tricky to simply “let go”, somatic processing gives you the bridge to get there.

The truths that guide my practice:

  • we each are 100% responsible for the life we create around ourselves;

  • everything we think, speak, do, and feel is noted by our always-listening subconscious... and we end up creating what we give our attention to, whether we actually want it or not;

  • unconscious scripts run almost everything we think, speak and do;

  • your body stores your emotional and cognitive blocks, and therefore is the most effective place from which to release them; and

  • a few key shifts can change your outcomes in dramatic ways.

Using breathwork, movement, play and mindset training, I coach people to operate from what Dale Carnegie coined the “day-tight container”, and to make. choices from a state of presence.

Positive, cheerful, engaged, supportive… Alex Van Tol as a somatic coach is all these things. I worked with Alex when I had a lot of dissatisfaction and uncertainty in my life. Alex kindly led me through a lively variety of tools and methods that often felt as much like play as work … and helped me get a grip on what ailed me. She helped me feel it was within my power to move forward joyfully. My guess is whatever you have going on, Alex will help you find your path to joy.
